When we 'kick the can down the road', we delay or avoid dealing with a significant, time-sensitive problem. This concept is familiar to many of us, and it's important to recognize when we're doing it.

Rationalization, finding logical reasons to justify deferring actions until later, is a defense mechanism. However, it's important to be aware that this habit can hinder our progress and prevent us from seizing opportunities.

As a subconscious memory part of our brain, the mind can be straightforward or play games.

Try listing 10 or 15 action items to accomplish today? Do we tackle the easiest first or the most difficult? By doing the easy stuff first, we move it off our plate to focus on the tough stuff. The hard stuff will take longer and more concentration.

By tackling the hard stuff first and using our fresh brain power to accomplish the task, we set ourselves up for success. This approach leaves us clear-headed and ready to tackle the remainder of the action items, empowering us to be more productive and efficient.

The propensity to leave the more difficult tasks until last can reflect a cognitive problem in our brains.

The habit may be rationalization or insecurity, but it simultaneously causes us to forgo opportunities.

I prefer tackling the tough stuff first so my brain can smoothly sail for the remainder.
