The act of "horsing around"dates to the early 1600s, when young horses engaged in spirited, rough, silly, and boisterous play. They would snort, kick, frolic, and gallop around, symbolizing what was viewed as "horseplay." By the 1900s.

At the beginning of the 1900s, the American English version gained traction, as it included terms like "messing around" and "being rambunctious".

For mental health, we all need to spend more time, just horsing around, and departing from the rat race called life. There is a lot of clarity and meaning in getting away and doing meaningless and straightforward activities.
